During winter we in Northen Europe tend to use more energy than in the summer. We also use more energy during certain hours of the day. This leads to volatility in energy consumption and -pricing, creating uncertainties for both energy producers and consumers. The first challenge in SaltX HACK will be to provide a decentralized energy storage solution, located either in Vattenfall´s energy network at decentralized locations or at Vattenfall´s customers, that balances supply and demand in an efficient way.
Last night, at Norrsken House, SaltX together with Vattenfall launched Challenge #1 of the SaltX HACK – ”Winter is Coming”. Vattenfall and SaltX have worked together to design this challenge, which aims to efficiently balance the fluctuations in energy consumption. The winning team of Challenge #1 will get the necessary support from both Vattenfall and SaltX to help the idea evolve into reality.
